Green Day’s Mike Dirnt Producing Indie Film

AUSTIN, TX - MARCH 15: Musician Mike Dirnt of Green Day performs during the 2013 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival at ACL Live on March 15, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
Rock stars often branch out from doing music when they have enjoyed a lot of success. Mike Dirnt of Green Day is no different.

Dirnt and the group’s manager Pat Magnarella will be producing an indie film Crickets, written by Alfredo Botello.

The film is about two brothers, one of whom is terminally ill. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dirnt has no experience producing films but does, however, have experience with illness.

Dirnt, whose wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, said, “I’ve been — and a lot of people have been — affected by illnesses and it’s a very relatable thing.”

He added that he is tired of “junk food movies.”  He says this will be a “feel good, feel bad and feel everything movie.”

Botello and Dirnt are currently gathering a crew for the film, and Dirnt is also helping produce the film’s music.  At least that’s one aspect of the film no one has to worry about.
