This year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival is two and a half weeks old, with all hands in supreme spirits as the four-stage, day-long metal spectacle rolls from town to town.
Avenged Sevenfold closes the fest each night, and guitarist Zacky Vengeance tells us the quintet has been having a great time so far:
"What I think's great about this tour, for us, we haven't been on an American festival, a true summer festival, since OZZFest. It's great to see all the bands out. It's like a traveling circus, being out in the sunshine, going. There's something happening all day, every day. At any point of the day you're surrounded by friends, other bands. You can go check out other bands. Any time you get this many people stuck in buses and vendors and traveling around, you're gonna hear some funny stories. It's never a dull moment."
The Mayhem Festival will be on the road through August 10 in Houston. A7X, meanwhile, will be releasing an expanded edition of its 2003 sophomore album, titled "Waking The Fallen: Resurrected" and featuring a second disc of demos, alternate versions and live tracks. The set comes out August 26.
