Godsmack has released “Generation Day,” a second song from its upcoming new album “1000hp.”
Unlike the title track and first single, a straightforward rocker, “Generation Day” is one of the album’s more experimental pieces, and frontman Sully Erna tells us the quartet enjoyed stretching out further while writing and recording it:
” ‘Generation Day,’ it’s almost a seven-minute song, so I can’t see it being a radio piece but I sure think it’s gonna be a great live piece, and it really feels right to me. It feels modern ’cause, really, what it is, it’s about us realizing we’re a little bit old school, still. I still listen to vinyl records, and the whole analog world is becoming obsolete to the digital world, the Internet and all that. It’s just realizing one day our generation day is gonna be shot, that’s it, and we’re trying to preserve whatever’s left of it.”
“1000hp” is due out August 5, and Godsmack hits the road to headline this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival tour, which kicks off August 15 in suburban Detroit.
