Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is making a bit of new news these days. To wit…
* He’ll appear on the upcoming album by his former band Exodus, playing a guitar solo on a track called “Salt in the Wound.” Hammett has remained friendly with Exodus over the years and performed with them at his first Fear FestEvil during February in San Francisco. He also joined Exodus on stage at the annual Comic-Con over the weekend in San Diego.
* At Comic-Con Hammett also unveiled his new Transformers guitar, an instrument he designed in conjunction with ESP Guitars, Hasbro and Nuclear Blast and features images from the popular “Transformers” series. One of the guitars was raffled off during Comic-Con, and Hammett signed autographs on Saturday (July 26) at the Hasbro booth.
Metallica is still working on its new album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic,” and has one concert — August 9 at the Heavy Montreal festival — on its itinerary.
