Godsmack News Round-Up: Godsmack Day Recap, Projected Album Sales

It’s official!  August 6th will now and forever be known as “Godsmack Day” in the city of Boston.

Mayor Martin Walsh read the glorious proclamation shown above for press and fans in attendance at Newbury Comics this past Wednesday and was even a good sport and put on a Godsmack tour jacket to get in the spirit of the day.

Of course, having a day dedicated to you doesn’t exactly make you untouchable within the city limits, as Sully Erna and Shannon Larkin told Meltdown from Detroit’s 101 WRIF just before the big day:

Sully:  “Yeah, I heard they don’t actually give the key anymore but make up a proclamation and announce that August 6th is ‘Godsmack Day,’ and it goes down in the history books.  You know…and we’re actually going to be ambassadors to the city.

Shannon:  “We were told that as ambassadors to the city, you’re not supposed to swear in public, and Sully’s like, ‘Have you heard our new record?’”

Yeah…good f*cking luck with keeping the swearing down, Boston officials.

…Speaking of the new record, 1000HP, Hits Daily Double is projected the first week of sales to be between 45-55k, which is down from the 117,000 first week sales of 2010’s The Oracle, but with Godsmack hitting the road next week headlining the Rockstar Uproar Tour, I wouldn’t be surprised if the album continues to be a top 10 mainstay throughout the next couple of months.
