U2 Releasing New Album This Fall?

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - JANUARY 12: (L-R) Musicians Larry Mullen Jr., Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton of music group U2 attends the Weinstein Company's 2014 Golden Globe Awards after party on January 12, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California.
If the rumors are true, U2 might be surprising fans by taking the Beyonce route with the release of their much-anticipated follow-up to 2009’s No Line on the Horizon.

According to the Irish Times, insiders are saying that the band may forgo the usual media/promotions blitz associated with a U2 album release and just quietly drop it on the public like the R&B superstar did with her last album.  Another source was also quoted as saying there will be a “single in September, album September-October, tour announced December, first date April next year.”

Apparently, the big hold up on the album release was due to a lack of a solid lead single, which the band has cited for the reason No Line on the Horizon didn’t meet sales expectations.

…And that makes a lot of sense.  “Get On Your Boots” simply wasn’t a very strong single, much less a lead single.  Here’s hoping U2 get it together and come up with a solid track.  It really is going to be a make-or-break factor on bringing them back as an album sales giant.
