Anything less than a “Viking Funeral” for Oderus Urungus would be unacceptable.
The annual Gwar-B-Q concert began with a memorial to honor the passing of Gwar founder and frontman Dave Brockie, who died this past March of an accidental heroin overdose. While Brockie was laid to rest shortly after his death in a private ceremony, fans and friends gathered this past Friday (August 15th) in a public ceremony to honor the late singer.
But, of course, a simple eulogy and moment of silence isn’t exactly in Gwar’s repertoire.
The video above shows the stage gear of Brockie’s alter ego, Oderus Urungus, on a ship, which was then set on fire. For good measure, there were some fireworks attached to the ship that went off as the fire spread.
As over-the-top Brockie was, we couldn’t think of a better way for Oderus to go out. It was a fitting tribute to one of metal’s biggest personalities.
