Chris Cornell, the lead singer of the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave and longtime friend to 93.3 WMMR, has died at the age of 52, according to his representative. Chris also toured and sang with Temple of the Dog and as a solo artist.
In a statement to The Associated Press, representative Brian Bumbery stated that Cornell, who had been on tour, died Wednesday night in Detroit. Earlier in the evening, Cornell had performed a concert with Soundgarden in Detroit.
Cornell tweeted this just last night:
Detroit finally back to Rock City!!!! @soundgarden #nomorebullshit
Bumbery called the death “sudden and unexpected” and said his wife and family were shocked by it. The statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy.
