Evening of Champions

Where: Chinatown on 10th Street between Arch and Race streets
What: Free and open to the public, the ‘street fair’ will celebrate the spirit of Olympism, capture the excitement of the Olympic Games, and help to showcase Chinese tradition, culture, and history in Philadelphia. The event will feature the Opening Ceremonies being broadcast on large-screens (at 8 p.m.), appearances by Olympians, displays of Olympic-related sports, and exhibitions of Chinese culture and traditions.

Goschenhoppen Historians’ 42nd Annual Authentic Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Festival
Come witness over 800 costumed craftsmen and historians demonstrate Pennsylvania Dutch life and work skills from the 18th and 19th centuries. Try traditional Pennsylvania Dutch refreshments like sausage sandwiches, fastnachts, shoofly pie, peaches and ice cream, and more. Visit with friendly farm animals and ride in a horse drawn hay wagon. Rest, learn, and be entertained by various folklife presentations throughout the day in the stage area. Manayunk Rubber Duck Race 2008
When: Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 12-2:30PM (Launch Party) and 3:30-6PM (After Party)
Where: Launch Party- Leverington Ave & Flat Rock Road; Finish Line Party-Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant on Main St.
What: 2,000 individually numbered rubber ducks racing down the Schuylkill River. You can buy as many ducks as you want, and if your duck finishes in one of the top spots you’ll receive a prize. Grand Prize is a 42” HDTV. You do not need to be present at the event to win. All winners will be posted on our website. All proceeds will go to the Debbie Pieri Angel Foundation. Bensalem Pa 19020 Why: Young adult cancer survivors are in need of support and resources, and Cancer Survivors Unite is the only organization in the Philadelphia area to focus on this specific group. How: Cancer Survivors Unite provides a quarterly newsletter, website, supportive programs for survivors, various fundraisers and community events. These are put together by a handful of caring volunteers, who want to increase support among young adult cancer survivors. Who: The focus of Cancer Survivors Unite is young adult cancer survivors; this could be a recent diagnosis, or a childhood diagnosis.

What: $30.00 Admittance Fee. Detective Michael Altieri is with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Narcotics Enforcement Team and in his 20th year of Law Enforcement. Michael had a benign brain tumor removed on Friday, May 16th. As a result of the surgery he lost his vision in one eye and only has partial vision in the other eye. This has been a very rough and painful time for Michael and his family, so let’s all join together and try to alleviate some of the pressure they have been under. We are raising money to help pay for all medical expenses that the insurance doesn’t cover.

The 43nd annual Polish American Festival
When: August 30-31, September 1, September 6-7, from noon to 8pm.
Where: Doylestown, PA.
What: All proceeds benefit The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa. The proceeds will go towards the maintenance of the shrine grounds, cemetery, military cemetery, buildings and other facilities. The event draws 20,000 visitors annually with guests and performers attending from around the world. It has also made national headlines in 1984 when former President Ronald Reagan spoke at the event.

What: We the Family and Friends of Chuck Rispo and his family are asking you for your help in donations for this fund raiser. Chuck has been diagnosis with cancer; Small Cell Carcinoma of the rectum than metastasis to the liver. They did not catch this as early as they wished. He is a loving husband to Deneen and an awesome father to his two sons (ages 5 and 12). He has always been a man that the community has admired and respected, always reaching out and helping others. We are collecting donations to help make this fund raiser a true success in hopes of making life on life’s terms a little bit more financially comfortable for the Rispo family. Donations can be monetary or material. Cash donations will go directly to the family. Material donations will be either auctioned off or displayed for raffle, combining smaller items to create baskets, as well as a 50/50 on the night of September 13th 2008.

What: Please join JHS Legacy Group, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization, in association with the First State Chapter H.O.G. and in conjunction with Mike's Famous H-D New Castle's Open House in its Inaugural Autism Puzzle Run/motorcycle ride. JHS is a nonprofit charitable organization that's dedicated to helping Delaware families affected by autism to particpate in opportunities, obtain services, attend conferences, trainings and workshops that they may not otherwise have access to without financial assistance in the form of grants. Proceeds from this event will help fund JHS' grant programs, which will provide financial assistance directly to families with children, adolescents and young adults with autism.

LBBC's Annual Butterfly Ball

What: The evening includes a live and silent auction, dinner and dancing and a drawing for a custom-designed necklace from Govberg Jewelers valued at nearly $30,000. This black-tie event raises money for education, information and support programs for breast cancer survivors and their families. Gala tickets cost $300 apiece; drawing chances cost $100 apiece or $200 for three (purchasers do not need to be present to win).

Felicia lives in Southampton, Pa with her twin brother Dean and 8yr old sister Angelina. Felicia was recently diagnosed in December with Wilms Tumor, a kidney cancer which has spread throughout her body. Please help her with her fight. This is an all day event including lunch and dinner and much, much more.
