When homeless freeze to death during a code blue or pass because of any extreme weather condition, it’s quite often because they have a dog or cat that won’t be allowed into a shelter. This is a pretty amazing effort that’s working in San Francisco. Let's bring it to Philly, too!
* Approximately 250 died in Philadelphia last year while experiencing homelessness.
* A portion of these people died from hypothermia.
* Of those who died from hypothermia, many were homeless with their pets.
* There are no shelters in Philadelphia that house people and their pets.
*Over the course of operating shelters in churches for 6 years, SREHUP (Student-Run Emergency Housing Unit of Philadelphia) has had to turn away countless individuals who are seeking shelter with their pets.
