One of metal’s most iconic voices and figures is gone.

Lemmy Kilmister, the legendary frontman/bassist for Motörhead, has died. He was 70 years old.

Per Motörhead's Facebook page, Lemmy had just learned on December 26th that he had an aggressive form of cancer and died in his home "sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family."

The posted continued, "We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.  Have a drink or few.  Share stories.  Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.  HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT."

Lemmy has battled numerous health issues this past year, which resulted in the cancelation/rescheduling of a number of tour dates.

Considering his influence on many rockers, news of Lemmy’s passing spread fast and led to an overwhelming outpouring of condolences on social media.
