Science Day 2016 – ‘Splosions, Lasers, and even a Theremin!
It’s the return of one our favorite days, Science Day! Of course, we couldn’t do any of these experiments without our friends from The Franklin Institute.
This year’s Science Day experiments included: Polymer Tug-O-War, Whoosh Bottle, Theremin Sing-A-Long, and (our favorite) blowing stuff up with liquid nitrogen!

The history of Science Day: In 2005 [our first year at WMMR], someone decided it would be fun to try all those experiments your teachers warn you ‘NOT to try at home’.
Will mixing tin foil and cleaning products really explode when combined together? What happens when CDs or soap or a bag of Doritos get microwaved? Some of the tests worked (hence the genesis of the famous SCIENCE clip) and some of them failed miserably!

Eventually The Franklin Institute caught wind of our dangerous amateur on-air science fair and offered to help. Truth be told, we were a little skeptical. Then we were introduced to Sulfur Hexafluoride:
Since then we have made Science Day with The Franklin Institute an annual tradition. Here are some of our favorites from the past:
From 2012, an Exploding Trash Can
From 2011, Another round of sulfur hexafluoride
Hop in the Wayback Machine and check out what we did in 2007:
In “Big Hero 6”, T.J. Miller’s character, Fred, kinda sums up our feelings best:
This is true, we have to have had so many close calls they ask for a list ahead of time:
Hmmm! Science Day tomorrow is on the right track; our building supervisors want us to do almost everything outside! @PrestonSteve933
