There’s a new goalie in town.
At the beginning of July the Flyers signed Brian Elliott from the Calgary Flames. We had to get him on the show for a quick get-to-know-you, especially now that the city has two Elliot/ts (re: Preston)
His first order of business; pick up the Best of Philly issue of Philadelphia Magazine. We were talking about this list – which has everything you could think of and more – while he was on the line which peaked his interest. The goaltender and his wife, Amanda, plan to visit the area soon on a house hunting excursion.
Talk about small hockey world; Brian is joining a team of old friends. He knows Claude & Jake from multiple All Star Games over the years, and Wayne Simmonds and Amanda are Godparents to the child of the Minnesota Wild’s Chris Stewart. For Brian, the core of this team was another reason to come to Philadelphia.
Did we mention that Mrs. Elliott is a retired Air Force Captain?
And this family loves to give back. Last year they launched Moose’s Troops with the Canadian Legacy Project. This program assisted veterans reestablish their lives at home and get recognized at Flames games. They would love to continue a similar program in Philadelphia.
As you read this, Brian is working with artists designing his new mask. Expect to see a throwback to the 90’s goalies with a clean look and tight lines.
