What originally started as a joke has now become a reality for one Weezer fan with the band’s recent cover of Toto’s “Africa.”

The cover was essentially the brainchild of a teenage Weezer fan named Mary whose desire for the band to cover the popular tune came via a joke about the band’s influence for their new album Daydream.

“...I jokingly said, ‘Oh I bet they were inspired by ‘Africa’ by Toto for their new album.’  It was just an absurd joke. And then I was like, ‘I wonder if I can get them to cover the song,’” said Mary in an interview with Noisey.

An actual Twitter account with the handle @weezerafrica and over 300 tweets later of calling on the band to fulfill her request, and we now have the cover below!

SEE!  Sometimes, the Internet isn’t such an awful hellscape where joy goes to die!  Sometimes, it's where dreams are made!
