Dan Donegan on Disturbed’s New Album ‘Evolution’ [+ Video]

After some not-so-subtle hints via social media, Disturbed confirmed they'll be releasing their seventh studio album, Evolution, on October 19.
Guitarist Dan Donegan talked with Beasley Media Group's Meltdown from WRIF about the new album, and Donegan explained how Evolution isn't just an album's title but an overall theme:

“Overall, building off the name ‘Evolution,’ we wanted to kind of not only being a band for over two decades now just how much we evolved as songwriters, as a band, sonically, musically, with our friendship...as this album as you see once it comes out and everybody hears all of the tracks how much you’ll see it’s taken a bunch of turns...We’re trying to evolve as musicians.  When we step in a room together, it’s always trying to bring something new that’s going to help inspire each other...I’m not worried about what the management or the record label or the fans think as much as I’m worried about walking into the room thinking about what the other guys in the band think about an idea I present to them...We’ve thrown some ideas around here that are going to completely surprise people on some of the turns we’ve taken...Overall, I think we feel like we’ve wrote some great songs here.”

Disturbed is known for including a cover song on their studio releases, but fans won’t be hearing a cover this time around on Evolution.  However, that doesn’t mean the band didn’t record any covers.  Donegan said:

“We dabbled with the idea of it, and then with all of this original material we had, we felt so strong about the overall vibe of the album that we were going to hold off on that.  Historically, yes, we’ve done a bunch of covers like “Shout” and “Land of Confusion” and obviously “Sound of Silence” and a few others throughout the years. This time we decided not to put it on there.  It’s not like we have to do it to chase something just because “Sound of Silence” was such a big success for us, but so have our originals been big successes. It’s not like we got lucky on one; we had four number one singles on the last record...We recorded something, but we decided to hold off and wait for the right opportunity, if we find a different outlet for it.”
