Scott Stapp Talks How Steven Tyler Helped with His Sobriety

Scott Stapp has been very open about his path to sobriety, and recently, he spoke about how Steven Tyler played a role in achieving five years sober.

In a conversation with WDHA’s Terrie Carr, Stapp said of Tyler, “In 2010, when I first began my journey to sobriety, of course it took me a while to get there. He [Tyler] really played a big part in planting the seeds that would eventually come to fruition when the time was right.”

Stapp continued, “We spoke on the phone maybe once a week for a little over a month, and he just shared his experience and kind of planted that seed that there is purpose when you get to the other side. He was actually demonstrating by taking the time out of his life. One of the biggest rockstars on the planet and everything he was doing to take time out of his life and to give back to me and to try and help me, because he had been there before. So, that’s exactly what led years later to that finally sinking in about five years ago, and it led to the creation of the first single ‘Purpose For Pain.'”

“Purpose For Pain” is the first single off of Stapp’s new solo album The Space Between The Shadows, which is due out July 19 and is currently available for pre-order at here.

Stapp will kick off a solo tour in support of his new LP on June 20 in Oshkosh, Wis. A complete list of tour dates can be found at ScottStapp.com.
