Among the 120 guitars up for auction is Gilmour’s iconic 1969 Black Fender Stratocaster. Affectionately known as “The Black Strat,” Gilmour played the guitar on The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. Christie’s estimates “The Black Strat” to sell between $100,000-150,000.  Considering its historical significance, don’t be surprised if it sells for more.

Gilmour’s 1954 White Fender Stratocaster #0001 is also part of the auction. It, too, is estimated to sell between $100,000-150,000.  It was used on “Another Brick in the Wall (Parts 2 and 3.)”  Like “The Black Strat,” don’t be surprised if it sells for more than its estimate at auction.

Gilmour said in an interview with Rolling Stone, “These guitars have been very good to me. They’re my friends. They have given me lots of music. I just think it’s time that they went off and served someone else. I have had my time with them. And of course the money that they will raise will do an enormous amount of good in the world, and that is my intention.”
