Tool Album Delay Led to Maynard James Keenan Receiving Death Threats
Tool finally releasing their sixth studio album, Fear Inoculum, is something fans wanted for years, but anyone that sent Maynard James Keenan death threats over the delay is clearly no sane fan.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, drummer Danny Carey said, “I felt bad for [Maynard James Keenan.] He even told me he was getting death threats from these idiots out there. They just have no idea what our work ethic is. These things don’t happen, man. There’s no other record that’s going to sound like this Tool record.”
However, the intense recording process did lead to some definite tension. Carey even said, “It’s not an easy process. I was ready to split up and go, ‘Well if you guys can’t commit to this, I’m just going to play with other people.'” Bassist Justin Chancellor added, “Sometimes I thought we were nearly there. We’d written an album or we had some songs that were cool, and then we’d dump the whole lot and start again. It was devastating.”
Fear Inoculum, comes out August 30 and is now available for pre-order through multiple platforms.
