Jon Bon Jovi via his JBJ Soul Foundation has donated $500,000 to help build a new apartment facility in Washington, D.C. for homeless veterans.
His work was highlighted in a recent piece on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper where Bon Jovi said, “Often times, [veterans] left to deal with PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] and the issue of coming back to the workplace after leaving the battlefield…Life as you knew it is going to be different, and sometimes, people need that extra help.”
The veteran’s apartment complex was a decade in the making along with support from the non-profit HELP USA, which helps fight homelessness in the United States. This facility will also provide different programs to assist homeless vets in getting back on their feet, in addition to providing them a place to call home.
The opening of this veterans facility comes on the heels of the release of the new Bon Jovi song “Unbroken,” which is featured in the documentary To Be of Service that chronicles veterans with PTSD being and how their service dogs helped change their lives. All proceeds from the song will benefit the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, a non-profit organization that pairs veterans and first responders with service dogs.
