Ronnie James Dio Documentary in the Works
Ronnie James Dio will be the subject of a new documentary from BMG.
Per Variety, the film will be “the first-ever career-spanning documentary” chronicling the iconic metal singer, and the project has been “fully authorized” by Dio’s estate. The doc will feature rare footage and photos from Dio’s entire career, as well as highlight some of his biggest career moments including organizing Hear ‘n Aid, the metal collaboration that raised money for African famine relief because metal artists were excluded from the likes of Band Aid (“Do They Know It’s Christmas?”) and USA for Africa (“We Are The World.”)
In a statement on the documentary, Wendy Dio said, “I am very excited to be working with BMG on Ronnie’s long-awaited documentary. Ronnie loved his fans and I hope they will enjoy this trip through Ronnie’s life.”
The Dio doc is the latest music film project backed by BMG. Some of their recent films include the Joan Jett documentary Bad Reputation and the David Crosby documentary David Crosby: Remember My Name.
