Rage Against the Machine Re-Enters Album Charts Amid Protests
Rage Against the Machine has seen a bump in their catalog’s streams and downloads amid ongoing police brutality protests stemming from the murder of George Floyd.
The band’s 1992 self-titled debut album has re-entered the Billboard 200 album chart at number 174. According to Forbes, that same album reached the number eight spot on Apple Music’s album chart yesterday afternoon (June 11.)
Rage Against the Machine features the track “Killing in the Name,” which was the band’s first single and also addresses racism among law enforcement. There have been many signs photographed at protests all over the world that feature the song’s lyrics. “Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses” are among the most popular lyrics from “Killing in the Name” to be featured on protest signs.
RATM guitarist Tom Morello commented on the news of Rage’s latest chart success by writing on Twitter, “Every Molotov needs a soundtrack.”
