Philadelphia Prohibits Large Public Gatherings Until 2021
It was announced today that the city of Philadelphia has cancelled all large public gatherings until February 28th, 2021, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Mayor Jim Kenney I'm disappointed to confirm that we are canceling large public events through February 28, 2021 due to the public health crisis.
This was not an easy decision to make. The health and safety of residents, workers, and visitors must be our top priority.
The announcement impacts several annual events in the city, such as the rescheduled Broad Street Run, the Philadelphia Marathon, the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Mummers Parade.
This sweeping cancellation applies to all of the following in Philly: “festivals, parades, concerts, carnivals, fairs, and flea markets… Applications for residential block party permits will not be accepted until further notice.”
The following can still occur: “demonstrations and First Amendment activities, outdoor gatherings that are not publicly advertised – like picnics & weddings – with 50 or fewer guests, organized outdoor rec & sports with 25 or fewer (persons), events on private property, like venues & stadiums.”
Mayor Kenney pointed out that for “gatherings on private property that are allowed, event producers and venue managers must follow guidance from the Public Health Department and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.” Those guidelines can be found here.
