Michael Anthony, former bassist for Van Halen, took to social media to pay tribute to Eddie Van Halen following news of the guitarist’s passing.

Anthony shared three images of himself with the late Van Halen to Instagram along with the caption, “No words…Heartbroken, my love to the family.”

Anthony played on 11 of Van Halen’s 12 studio albums. The lone exception was their final album, 2012’s A Different Kind of Truth. In 2006 when the band reunited with David Lee Roth, Anthony was replaced by EVH’s son, Wolfgang, who was only 15 at the time.

Van Halen passed away yesterday (October 6) following a bout with cancer at the age of 65. His death was confirmed by Wolfgang, who wrote on social media, “I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off the stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”
