The Thrill Of A Bus Ride In Bermuda
If you ever make your way down to the island of Bermuda, and I highly recommend a visit. Skip the taxis and scooter rentals and opt for a public transportation pass. Between the buses and ferries, you’ve got the whole island covered. For example, a lazy day trip to snorkel in a dreamy aqua colored bay will include a few bus rides and a couple ferry rides. Additionally, the views and scenery from both the bus and ferry are definitely worth the price of admission. If you’re staying on the island for more than a day or two, I would also recommend getting a multi-day pass for unlimited rides. And let’s be honest, with all of the gorgeous beaches and parks Bermuda has to offer, you’re going to want to do a lot of exploring.
The first thing I noticed was the sign on the window that said ‘Danger! Keep Head & Arms Inside Bus.’ I would heed that warning if you want to keep your body parts. I have to admit that my first thought was that these guys drive like lunatics. This may be how I meet my demise. But within 5 minutes, I realized I was on a ride better than most roller coasters. The fantastic views were an added bonus. As a result, I went from thinking this guy can’t drive to thinking this guy is one of the most skilled drivers I’ve ever seen. The driver weaved in and out of traffic like it was second nature to him. He made turns that I didn’t think were possible.
The roads in Bermuda are undoubtedly incredibly challenging. They’re ridiculously narrow and wind their way around tight corners – but the drivers here seem to have no trouble maneuvering them at high speeds. At first it was quite terrifying, but after a while I started to find it exhilarating. These drivers know exactly what they’re doing, and they don’t hesitate to take even the smallest risks in order to get where they’re going. I vividly remember having my window open and taking more than a few palm leaves and branches to the skull as we whizzed past trees and shrubs at high speeds. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you’re up for a little adventure, a bus ride in Bermuda is certainly an experience you won’t forget any time soon.
The video doesn’t do it justice, but you’ll get the idea of the 1-2 inches of space between you and a stone wall at 50 km/h. Enjoy of few pictures of the island as well. It’s a quick and easy flight out of Philadelphia and depending on where you stay, your taxi from the airport can have you on the beach in minutes.
We stayed in the Grotto Bay area and our ride from the airport to the resort was just six minutes. It’s a great place for even a quick getaway on a long weekend. We jumped off cliffs, hand-line fished with a local in the bay and just relaxed on the beach. The place has a really laid back feel and the people were super friendly. Overall, we had an amazing time and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Stay tuned for more pictures and stories from our trip!
