REVIEW: Coheed and Cambria Rock The Liacouras Center
Hey Gang! Brent Porche here.. Fresh off the absolutely stellar ‘MMR Concert Event with Coheed and Cambria at the Liacouras Center on Wednesday night (7.27.22). The Rockland County (NY) Rockers brought their ‘Window of the Waking Mind’ tour to the campus of Temple University in North Philadelphia for what was an unforgettable night of music & rock n’ rowdiness.
Thousands of fans packed in to the Liacouras Center to see COCA with support from Alkaline Trio & Mothica. Both Coheed & Alkaline Trio had nothing but love for the City of Philadelphia and mentioned how much it meant to be back in the city that has loved and supported them since way back in the beginning! It was great to hear tunes from almost every album in their vast catalog.. but for me, the new songs off of ‘Vaxis – Act II: A Window of the Waking Mind’ (out now via Roadrunner Records) including their hits “Shoulders” & “The Liar’s Club” really stood out above the rest. The “oldies” like ‘Welcome Home’ & ‘The Running Free’ were definite crowd favorites as the mosh pits were swirling for most of their hour & forty-five minute set!
The stage setup (pictured above) consisted of a HUGE Devilish goat head with 4 massive horns protruding out towards the crowd, it was lit with all sorts of lighting configurations, book-ended with two huge screens projecting all sorts of crazy imagery. I love it when bands bring everything they’ve got.. both sonically AND visually! The Alice Coopers… The Rob Zombies… all have amazing theatrics that accompany them on stage. Coheed and Cambria are also one of those bands that bring a visually striking stage show with them.
I could tell how excited Rockin’ Ryan Shuttleworth (from the Fabulous Flying Shuttleworth’s) was to be seeing HIS boys in such a historic venue on North Broad Street! Thanks to our friends at Live Nation & Temple University for having us out to host. See you at the next show!
Stay up late with Brent Porche, live on air Tuesday through Friday from midnight to 5:30AM, and Saturdays from 3-7pm.
