Evanescence is currently sitting atop the iTunes U.S. Top Songs chart with their 2003 hit “Bring Me To Life.” The thing that makes this so unusual is that no one really knows how and why this happened.

The band’s social media channels commented on the news saying, “19 years and still going strong! Bring Me To Life is #1 on iTunes. Thank you for the love!”

Kworb.net shows Evanescence beat out some stiff competition to be the top song on iTunes’ U.S. song chart. Some of the artists/tracks they beat out included Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” and Harry Styles’s “As It Was.”

Of course, this still leaves the question as to why a song released 19 years ago is topping an iTunes chart seemingly at random. A number of outlets have hypothesized the reason. Loudwire notes, “Twitter can’t seem to figure it out either, though there is a bit of speculation surrounding the news. One user noted that it was the answer to yesterday’s Heardle puzzle — which plays brief snippets of a song until players guess what it is.”

Currently, “Bring Me To Life” hasn’t become a random trend on TikTok. It hasn’t even been used in a TV series or film, similar to the effect Stranger Things had on Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.”

Eventually, someone will get to the bottom of this. This is the internet, after all.
