Season 5 of Cobra Kai has arrived on Netflix. If it has been a while since you watched Season 4, here is a quick recap, courtesy of “Man Of Recaps” on YouTube. Spoilers ahead.
The Dojo Deal:
The season began with the three dojos making a deal in which the loser of the All Valley Under 18 Karate Championship would close. Daniel LaRusso’s Miyagi-do and Johnny Lawrence’s Eagle Fang join forces to take down Cobra Kai. However, Cobra Kai has some tricks up their sleeve. First, Johnny’s son, Robbie, joined the rival dojo, providing them with knowledge on how to best Miyagi-do. Then, sensei John Kreese recruited Terry Silver, the main antagonist of The Karate Kid Part III, to be a co-sensei.
Love & War:
Within the Miyagi-do+Eagle Fang alliance, Daniel’s daughter Sam and Johnny’s star pupil Miguel rekindle their relationship. Daniel takes an opportunity to mentor Miguel, with Johnny responding by encouraging Sam to take risks and taking her under his wing. This creates conflict between the senseis, leading to a long-awaited rematch between Daniel and Johnny to decide who will lead both dojos to the tournament as the sole sensei. The match ends in a draw, and the senseis’ egos getting in the way results in the dojos splitting.
All three dojos face their own struggles and obtain victories in the build-up to the championship. Kreese keeps Silver in line by holding their Vietnam experiences over his head, a “no fighting” rule is established between Miyagi-do and Cobra Kai, Demitri helps Eli / Hawk regain his confidence and join Miyagi-do, Amanda LaRusso attempts to squash the beef between Sam and Tori, and Cobra Kai recruits Kenny, the younger brother of Robbie’s ally from juvie. Romance continues to blossom as Robbie and Tori get together and Johnny and Miguel’s mom reveal their relationship to him.
The Face Off:
At the All Valley Under 18 Karate Championship, Demitri goes on a winning streak, Robbie regretfully beats his pupil Kenny, Miguel gets injured and forfeits, and Daniel makes Johnny a co-sensei for the girls’ division final. In the finals, Eli beats Robbie to win the boys’ division for Miyagi-do, and Tori defeats Sam to win the girls’ division for Cobra Kai. However, Tori’s win is tainted when she overhears that Terry bribed the referee. During Cobra Kai’s victory speech, Terry announces that Cobra Kai will be opening more dojos across the Valley.
Following the tournament, Johnny reunites with Robby, who feels remorse for his involvement with Cobra Kai. Johnny also travels to Mexico to find Miguel, who went there to find his father. Daniel backs out of the agreement between the three dojos, joining forces with his rival-turned-friend Chozen to strengthen Miyagi-do.
The Unexpected Twist:
To cap off the fourth season, Terry frames Kreese for his assault of Cobra Kai student Stingray, revealing that the two made a deal in which Stingray could rejoin Cobra Kai if he told police that Kreese was responsible.
