Pennsylvania: Here’s the No. 1 Comfort Food in the State
We have some great comfort food in Pennsylvania. Now, we officially have a No. 1 comfort food item, thanks to a new study, and it totally makes sense. I promise you won’t be surprised by these findings.
The news is buried in a new report from WalletHub.com that ranks the most and least obese states in the nation. The study, “2022’s Most Overweight and Obese States in America,” included all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
If you’re wondering, neither Pennsylvania nor New Jersey are one of the most obese states in the U.S., according to this new report. No. 1 is West Virginia, followed by Mississippi, Kentucky, Arkansas and Alabama. WalletHub points out that the majority of states at the top of the list are southern states, writing, “The southern cities that rank at the top of the list have a high prevalence of obesity and overweight issues in adults, teenagers and children. Alabama for example has the highest percentage of overweight teenagers, 20.1%, while Mississippi has the highest share of obese teenagers, 23.4%,” said WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez. “Other reasons why southern states rank at the top include the lack of health insurance coverage for nutritional counseling, the fact that people eat less than one serving of fruits or vegetables per day, and the fact that a large percentage of adults are physically inactive.” Pennsylvania was No. 27 on the list, and New Jersey was No. 40.
So, when it comes to comfort food, what’s on top in Pennsylvania? Philly Cheesesteak. Are you surprised? As for close states, the best comfort food in New Jersey is Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese, New York is Buffalo Wings and Connecticut is New Haven-Style White Clam Pizza. All of those options sound delicious. Find the full WalletHub report here. Do you agree with the best comfort food options? Reach out to us on social media and give us your picks.
