We chatted with Def Leppard's Rick Allen during the program this week. The Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer spoke to us about everything from Def Leppard to his art career.
Def Leppard will be performing in Atlantic City this weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel. Rick will be showing his artwork at the Wentworth Gallery in Atlantic City before the band takes the stage at the Hard Rock Arena. And as an added bonus, Mötley Crüe will be opening.
Def Leppard has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and performed for sold-out audiences all over. At the height of their worldwide fame in 1984, Rick had a car accident that changed his life. He lost his arm, but turned that personal tragedy into a spiritual transformation and continued his career.
He was already someone millions of young people looked up to, but his perseverance drew millions of new admirers. Since then, Rick has reached out and given support to others everywhere by sharing his personal experiences as well as his love of drumming.
Following years of personal photography, he ventured into the fine art world in 2012. He had an impressive debut collection of abstract artwork "built from rhythm." He has since become a pioneer in a new medium, utilizing rhythm to dictate abstract visuals on canvas.
The collection on display at the Wentworth Gallery houses originals, limited editions, mixed media originals, plus for the first time - works on Metal. Also on view will be the “Legends Series,” featuring portraits of Charlie Watts, Eddie Van Halen, and Kurt Cobain.
A portion of each sale of his work will benefit his Project Resiliency. They have worked passionately with veterans from Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Def Leppard's Rick Allen will be showing his art for free. It is also open to the public.
5 Rock Bands with Multiple Diamond-Certified Studio Albums
A number of bands have one diamond-certified title, and even fewer have more than one. However, there is an elite group of rock bands with multiple diamond-certified studio albums.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has given out a number of diamond certifications to various albums that have sold at least 10 million units. Several of those albums happen to be greatest hits/best-of compilations. Thanks to these releases, this has led to a variety of bands have more than one diamond-certified title.
Believe it or not, there are only five rock bands to have more than one diamond-certified studio albums. That's right, only five.
So, who are they? Scroll through the gallery below to find out and to see which of their studio albums have moved 10 million units or more.
