The Rival Sons' new album DARKFIGHTER comes out early this summer on June 2, 2023. The tour is named after the forthcoming album. So far they have two singles out, called "Nobody Wants to Die" and "Rapture."
The band is also planning to release a companion album for DARKFIGHTER, called "Lightbringer," due out late this year. The two-album set digs deeper than Rival Sons has gone before. It has been in the works since the beginning of the pandemic. All of the heavy stuff happening around lead singer Jay Buchanan led him to just keep on writing. And eventually, all the writing turned into tons of new music for us to enjoy.
Rival Sons also announced that there is a pre-order for a limited-edition clear vinyl of the album. Their last album, Feral Roots, came out in 2019. So basically, we've been itching for some new content for quite a while now. And boy, are they delivering it. The Rival Sons show at the Franklin Music Hall should bring all kinds of exciting newness. Especially with it being just a DAY after the new LP releases.

Greta Van Fleet wrapped up their 2022 Dreams in Gold Tour in Atlantic City this past weekend with two sold out shows inside the Mark G Etess Arena at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. These shows were scheduled to take place earlier this year but had to be postponed due to GVF guitarist Jake Kiszka being hospitalized with pneumonia. Several recent GFV tour dates in other cities had to be postponed more recently due to Greta singer Josh Kiszka rupturing an eardrum – requiring an extensive period of time to recuperate. Thankfully the band was back at full strength their final shows of 2022… and mannn, did they rock the house!
The whole night was filled with great music… I finally was able to catch The Velveteers for the first time, a trio out of Boulder, Colorado – featuring two drummers and a female vocalist that also rips on guitar. A lot of sound came out of those 3, with a ton of energy. Definitely on my radar now… gotta check them out again soon.
Rival Sons came out firing with a blisteringly bluesy and rockin’ set – featuring their brand-new song ‘Nobody Wants to Die’ which will be on their brand-new record “DarkFighter” out March 10th, 2023. The crowd was hyped for their local hero, Rival Sons keyboardist & backing vocalist, Todd “Mofo” Ogren, who in return, was just as hyped (if not more) to be entertaining the raucous Saturday night Atlantic City crowd.
All perfectly setting up the night for headliners Greta Van Fleet – who continue touring in support of their sophomore album “The Battle at Garden’s Gate”. The band has grown significantly on so many levels since the first time I saw them live 5 or more years ago. The sound is bigger, the stage setup in bigger, the pyro is bigger! The screaming crowed ate up every last moment of their 12-song set with a number of songs getting extended with ripping guitar & drum solos. It was great to see and hear the Greta guys at 100%, because they really do rock hard live! Josh’s vocal range is something you have to check out live to really get the full scope of how incredible of a voice he has.
It was great to see so many familiar faces and ‘MMR Family’ at the show! I even met some Greta Van Fleet and Rival Sons fans from other parts of the country that traveled from as far as Seattle and Los Angeles for these Atlantic City shows. Way cool!
See ya at the next show! -bp
