LISTEN: HEALTH Covers Deftones’ “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)”
Industrial metal trio HEALTH are riding high on the release of their fifth album RAT WARS, and there’s a stop at Union Transfer in Philadelphia smack in the middle of their headlining U.S. tour. The show is this Saturday, with Pixel Grip and King Yosef also on the bill, and tickets are sold out.
The newest album from HEALTH is their most comprehensive yet. Synth-driven doom is the driving force behind their infectious and sensual beats. When harsh, distorted guitars cut through like a jagged knife, the ethereal voice of singer Jake Duzsik is there to soothe. Bassist John Famiglietti and drummer BJ Miller complete their heavy electro-stomp. As a press release from the band succinctly put it: “It’s The Downward Spiral for people with at least two monitors and a vitamin D deficiency.”

Not long after RAT WARS was let loose, the group followed it up with a cover of Deftones’ “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)”. The version from HEALTH is very much their own, but it retains the atmospheric allure of the original 1997 track. Listen to the song on Spotify, or check out a live rendition below from earlier in their current tour.
This isn’t the first connection between the two bands: in 2021, HEALTH and Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno collaborated on a track for The Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack, which is a companion piece to the DC graphic novels of the same name by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. Tyler Bates produced the track, called “Anti-Life,” and you can hear that below.
HEALTH have also tag-teamed songs with Nine Inch Nails, Lamb of God, Ghostmane, Soccer Mommy and a ton of other acts, showcasing their versatility with each collaboration.
