Nirvana’s Chili Dogs Commercial?
Fans of Nirvana recently paid tribute to Kurt Cobain’s death on April 5th. Kurt’s shocking death was 30 years ago on this date. Diehard fans know all of Nirvana’s iconic albums, but would they know that Nirvana recorded a jingle for Pat’s Chili Dogs?
In a recent episode of The Preston & Steve Show, the gang discussed Kurt’s passing and how it was a historical tragedy in music. Nirvana changed rock and roll.
Nick described how Kurt’s death was one of those “Where-were-you-when-you-heard-it moments.” He was in college and heard it through word of mouth. The news spread like wildfire.
Preston explained how an entire format of music came after Nirvana. The group caused a chain reaction in staple-piece rock bands such as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. 1991 in of itself was the year of rock music when Nirvana released their Nevermind Album. Nick read a list of rock songs and albums that were released 44 days of each other in 1991. The list included Nevermind but also Metallica’s Blackout album, Pearl Jam 10, GNR Use Your Illusion 1 & 2, Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bad Motor Finger by Soundgarden.
Nirvana was very influential in the music industry. Preston talks about the tv special that he saw in which it explained the change in band popularity. In the special, Jani Lane from the Warrant describes the day Nirvana’s picture was hung up behind the front desk of their record company. There was a new top band.
According to Steve, sometimes the video of Nirvana’s Pat’s Chili Dogs Commercial resurfaces. And in honor of Kurt, he sang the Pat’s Chili Dogs jingle – as Kurt of course.
