Strange Culture PA: “Signs of Life”

Brent Porche here with you on this first Wednesday of May. Hard to believe we're already halfway through spring, right? But with a new page on the calendar comes a new Local Shots Artist of the Month, and we are stoked to welcome Strange Culture PA as this month's featured band.

Representing Philadelphia by way of Quakertown, the quartet features Nicholas Schubert on lead vocals and keyboards, Garrett Sillsbury on lead guitar, Nathan Mayer on bass, and Noah Mayer on drums and vocals. These guys have got some oomph to their music for sure, giving us a fresh take on melodic metalcore with high energy and grooves, and we're gonna be featuring new music from the group over the course of this month.

In fact, we have five Wednesdays with the fellas this month, which means a whole lot of great tunage to play for you every week right around 6:30pm. The MMR Local Shots Artist of the Month Vixen77 opened up the 2023 MMRBQ this past Saturday with a blistering set. It definitely set the bar very high for the rest of the bands that were to follow!

Samantha, Caitlin, Jaz, Liz & Sarah rocked the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion crowd, and hard, with their super high-energy performance!

Their brand-new single "Fast Lane" was an audience favorite for sure. The whole venue was headbanging in unison! This band also describes their music as "a bona fide punch in the face."

Vixen77 is the creation of guitarist, Caitlin, who dreamt of playing in an all-lady rock band since high school. She had been playing the Philly punk scene for a few years when she decided to put her dream in motion.

In late 2018, the band was formed. It's a five-piece, all-women band. The name Vixen 77 is a reference to woman energy and the musical influence of late 70s punk.

In a few short months, they were opening for Cherie Currie of The Runaways.  In March of 2019, they began pre-production and tracking of their full-length debut album.

Original members Caitlin, bassist Jaz, and guitarist Liz enlisted the services of Sarah Novack on drums and Samantha Joan on vocals.

The band, once again, went into the studio. They recorded their upcoming album, Easy Access, over the course of three days. 72 hours later, they had twelve bangers ready to release into the world. They returned to the stage in January of 2022. They've been playing to packed rooms around the Philly area as headliners since they've reemerged from the Pandemic.

Rock 'n' Roll should be loud, aggressive, fun, and rebellious. That's exactly what they look to bring to the world. Buckle up.
