Pennsylvania Restaurant Best for Delicious Pancakes, by Dining Experts
The food experts at Gothammag.com have put together a roster of the best pancakes in America. Pancakes are one of my favorite dishes, especially because I’m a vegetarian. I do eat eggs and dairy, so traditional cakes work for me. My personal favorite pancakes are chocolate-chip with a thinner syrup. In my opinion, when syrup is thin, it soaks into the cakes better and makes the overall experience more sweet. Not to mention that chocolate-chip pancakes taste like big chocolate-chip cookies, especially when they’re hot off the grill. Of course, when it comes to variety, I really think blueberry pancakes are the most universally adored. They’re simply the classic flavor. Regardless of what kind of cakes you love, this tally looks at the tastiest in America, as judged by their editors. With only 20 top picks, not every state got acknowledgement, so we’re lucky to have made the cut.
So, which Pennsylvania restaurant has been honored as one of the best for pancakes in America? It’s Darling Jack’s Tavern, which is located at 104 S. 13th Street in Philadelphia. “Darling Jack’s weekend brunch menu redefines the classic buttermilk pancake with delectable garnishes like Maine blueberry compote, toasted almonds and, of course, maple syrup,” the publication raves. “Pair this sweet treat with a savory bite like salt-roasted beets.” You had me at blueberry compote and toasted almonds.
Darling Jack’s Tavern also has a really nice story behind it. “For over 20 years, Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran of Safran Turney Hospitality have worked to revitalize the once-desolate strip of 13th Street, which has now transformed into the trendy neighborhood known as ‘Midtown Village,'” they explain. “Today, they own and operate three beloved restaurants in the area: Barbuzzo, Little Nonna’s, and Bud & Marilyn’s.” On top of that, they run two lifestyle boutiques, Open House and Verde, as well as a private event space with an open kitchen and bar, which is above Barbuzzo. They pretty much do it all. Aside from breakfast, Darling Jack’s Tavern also has great lunch and dinner items, so if you feel like skipping the pancakes, that’s an option. Not that you should skip this treat, ever.
