Calling All Trivia Buffs: Question Party?! Is Coming To Philadelphia

When you hear “trivia,” do you think of a snarky host with a calf tattoo mumbling from a corner? Yeah? Well, Question Party?! is not that.

Best friends Dan (stand-up comedian) and Mike (host of Not Your Standard Bingo) created Question Party?!: a comedy meets quiz show that is 25% quiz, 60% comedy, 15% limbo, 30% Mariah Carey sing-along with zero care for math and they’re NEVER in the corner.

Dan Davies and Michael Stauffer first worked together co-hosting a latte art competition. They immediately recognized the yin to the other’s yang. They also realized you can’t finish every latte, or else you risk….well, you know.

Question Party?! is a live show for people who don’t take their trivia (or their lives) so friggin’ seriously.

The hosts, who share a joie de vivre, perform a dramatic guess-that-lyric reading, act out scenes from famous films, cue up your favorite throwback jams, and ask hand-crafted, trivial questions. They will NOT apologize for their dancing or the dancing they inspire.

QP?! has enjoyed weekly residencies in Williamsburg, Manhattan, Miami, Montauk, and NOW PHILLY! Check them out, you won’t regret it. Although you will regret not calling out of work the next day.

Team up with your favorite humans to answer silly questions (ex: spell Worcestershire), guess movies acted out by the hosts (yes, THAT Katz Deli scene), and discern pop songs from a Dramatic Lyric Reading. Oh, and the limbo contest! This is trivia for people who prefer to laugh than be right because why are we taking ourselves so seriously?? Just be smart…and party!

It's the ultimate group outing. We made a list of some great bars that host Quizzo nights in Philadelphia.

What is "Quizzo," you ask? It's actually a local thing. It was originally called “Quizo.” And it's actually the name given to trivia night events in Philadelphia. Yes, Philly invented a unique name for trivia nights.

It all started when a Kensington native named Patrick Hines served as a bartender in Wildwood during the ‘90s. According to this article from Billy Penn, a customer mistook his bar’s trivia night for bingo. Hines’ friend responded, “No, this is Quiz-o!” Quizzo arrived in Philly soon after.

There are multiple Quizzo events almost every night of the week across the city. They all have different themes like Disney, Friends, boy bands, or basically whatever pop culture phenomena you can think of. People gather their friends and go to these bars to drink and test their knowledge of all kinds of useless information.

Leave it to Philly to have our own name for a common thing. How awesome is that, though? So if you want to participate in some trivia in the City of Brotherly Love, we got you.

Wissahickon Brewing Company hosts Thursday Quizzo at 7:30 pm. Wiss Quizzo! is hosted by Sean P. Maguire. There are prizes up for grabs, and it's FREE to play! 

Loco Pez hosts Monday Quizzo. Starting at 7 pm, this Quizzo is hosted by Johnny Goodtimes, the person credited with popularizing the game in Philadelphia. Not only is there a trivia game, there are also deals on nachos and margarita's on Mondays. So you won't get hungry or thirsty while wracking your brain for answers.

Stogie Joe's hosts Monday Quizzo. Every Monday evening from 7 to 9 pm, this tavern hosts trivia. First place wins $100 cash. Second place receives a $50 Stogie Joe's gift card. And, last but not least, third place receives a $25 Stogie Joe's gift card. Go for the Quizzo and stay for the amazing food and drink!

Fergie's Pub hosts Tuesday Quizzo. One of the regulars of this pub actually appeared on Jeopardy in January, so they're the real deal! It starts at 8 pm, but get there early if you want a spot. This one's a busy one!

Kelliann's Bar & Grill hosts Wednesday night Quizzo. This is another one to get there early for. The official start time is 8:30 pm, but due to its super popularity, you must get a spot early. This spot has some fantastic wings, so snack on those while trying to remember who "Back to December" by Taylor Swift was written about.

Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse hosts Monday Quizzo. It starts at 6:30 pm and features prizes and giveaways. It's an evening filled with trivia and drink specials. Make sure you come with a team so you can have your best shot at winning.

Strangelove's hosts Monday Quizzo. It starts at 8 pm and you can win up to $25 off your tab. That's quite a chunk of change in beer money, so try your hand, y'all. This place is super vibey and has other popular events as well, so be sure to stalk the event page on their website.

The International Bar hosts Wednesday Quizzo. It's called Question Mark Quizzo and it starts at 7:15 pm. It's a quiz night full of "whimsy and casual chaos," says the bar. It's hosted by Matt and resident Quizzo villain (?) Mark. Teams may be asked crazy things like to name all the flowers in a bouquet or how to break into a vault.
