“To Pierre, Nick & Matt” – Eddie Vedder
Pearl Jam rocked The Big Joint for two nights this week, September 7th & 9th. 93.3 WMMR was there for both sold out shows, broadcasting live as the crowd rolled in full of excitement and exited in a joyous frenzy.
Three of those people are of part of the WMMR Family. We’ll explain…
For the Monday show, Pierre Robert and Nick McIlwain were on hand to help Brent Porche anchor the pre-show festivities from the MMR Booth. After a few breaks talking with fans and recapping the energy of Night #1, the two were invited backstage to meet with Pearl Jam’s manager. After a few minutes of waiting by the stage, Stone Goassard appeared to say hello the the MMR DJs.
After a great chat with Stone in which he did confirm that Philly really was the loudest crowd of the tour so far, it was time for Pierre and Nick to return to their seats and for Stone to finish warming up.
That was it. Everyone parted ways and the whole moment was just a memory. Until six songs into the set, After “Dark Matter” when the next moment happened. Eddie Vedder ended his story by saying, “this one’s dedicated tonight to Pierre, and Nick and Matt” before going into “In My Tree.”
Tears began streaming down Nick’s face. Matt Cord screamed for joy. And Pierre finished buying his beer. Yes, Pierre was in the concourse as he was shouted out from stage. Watch the moment below, then scroll down to see Nick’s telling of the story on The Preston & Steve Show.
