Sir Charles Barkley And Professor Pierre Celebrate The A To Z
A very special guest educator popped into Professor Pierre’s A to Z classroom on Monday. The “Everything That Rocks” mantra means you get an extremely versatile and well rounded educational experience. And no better person to exemplify that than the “Round Mound of Rebound” himself. Pierre proclaimed “SPORTS UP!” and welcomed Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley!
Charles stopped by our sister station 97.5 The Fanatic last week to be a guest of The Mike Missanelli Show. Right after the program Pierre Robert grabbed the roaming rock microphone to see if Chuck would like to help us celebrate the A to Z. He did just that and then some.
High Praise Between Philly Legends
“I’ve known you forever” says Charles Barkley of Pierre Robert as the two started their conversation. They compared their relative time frame spent in Philadelphia with Charles being here 40 years and Pierre beating him by just 2 years. Chuck notes the importance of that by stating “You must be talented and people like you… you can’t keep a job that long if not”.
Pierre reciprocating the praise “Well people love you…and we’re still running!”. And both of these fine gentlemen are absolutely correct because they share the same work ethic and principles. Whether on the basketball court or in the radio studio, they give their all and share their passions with the City of Brotherly Love. You don’t get regal names like “Sir” and “Duke” if you don’t.
Charles Barkley’s Favorite Band
As the Professor of the Back to School A to Z, Pierre was curious as to what rock band was Mr. Barkley’s favorite and he certainly selected a good one. “My Favorite band is the Eagles. I’ve seen them like 35 times.” Charles tells Pierre. He loves them so much that one of his prized possessions is a piece of Eagles’ memorabilia. “For my 50th birthday my agent got me a signed guitar by the 4 guys. This is when Glenn Frey was still alive. Its got Don, Timothy and Joe… I have it some place where no one can touch it!”. Certainly a testament to his love of the band considering he also has 2 Olympic gold medals!
“One Of These Nights”
At the end of their chat Pierre had promised Charles Barkley that when the opportunity arose he would send an Eagle’s song out to him during the A to Z. With their catalog it was only a matter of time and the stars aligned on Monday September 9th during the letter O. And during the “One” subcategory of tuneage our dear Professor delivered on his word with the title track of the Eagles 4th studio record One Of These Nights.
This number from the Eagles certainly has quite the sultry swagger to it. It has such a swaying melody that when combined with the soulfulness of Don Henley’s vocals it really becomes larger than life. It’s quite the fitting tune to celebrate Charles Barkley. With a larger than life physical appearance he could appear quite intimidating. However once you hear him speak you realize quickly how cool and inviting he truly is. He is certainly one of Philadelphia’s great Citizens and a star pupil of this year’s Back to School A to Z.
We once again thank the incredible Sir Charles Barkley for taking the time to chat and welcome him back anytime!
