An email from a listener asking about Preston & Steve Show sound clip origins sparked a fun conversation full of nostalgia and back-to-back laughs.
Listener, Brian Sokolowski, emailed Preston with a question and a suggestion. He was hoping for segment called “Where’s That F'n Sound Coming From?” where the gang would explain the origins of sound bites we play on the show.
Wish granted. We opened up the phone lines and the text board to find out which clips you would like to know about.
The segment delved into many sound bite origins such as movie bites like the “Chi-Ca-Go!” clip and “Why don’t you forget the moose!” (Ace Ventura 2 and Arthur respectively). Why do we play the FROGGY song on Friday? The answer is in the lyrics which you may have missed. Listen closely and you can hear them sing “Bizarre files have all the lore.” It just worked!
How about Casey’s “Baabda do de de da, hi grandma!”? It's a random phrase he said to Siri and, lucky us, he decided to repeat on the radio the next day.
From old to new, check out the origins of the many iconic sound bites you have heard on the show! Figure out how the greeting, “gadzooks” started and why Gary Lauer said he has three testicles! Speaking of Gary, who is Gary? It's all answered here:

Who’s Luau Party Recap & We Answer The Question: Who Is Lou?
Who's Lou? And where the heck is that clip from? Answers to all this and more below the Who's Luau party recap.
Results are in: we had the best time ever at the first ever Who's Luau! Our hosts, Valley Forge Casino, went above and beyond preparing the Valley Beach for the party. Themed menus, frozen drinks, and a great soundtrack added to the poolside beach (and beach bar!)
The stars of the night were Paradise Island Entertainment! Their Luau Show transported us directly to Hawaii from the moment they took the stage. You have to see the videos!
Here's a deep dive into everything that happened at Preston & Steve's Who's Luau,
Preston &... Magnum?
Steve Morrison transformed in Thomas Sullivan Magnum III for the evening. He's already planning on upping his wig game for next year.
The Lou Lou Platter
The team at Valley Forge Casino prepared a themed menu for the evening.
It's Limbo Time!
The party games kicked off with a classic luau limbo. Kudos to our underdog, Nick, FTW!
Meet Paradise Island Entertainment
It was a party until Paradise Island Entertainment made it a rager! Live Tahitian drummers and full band kicked set the vibe and authentic Polynesian dancers directly from the South Pacific Island got everyone shaking their hips.
The Big Kahuna
The dancers pulled a group of guys to the front to learn a dance. After the fellas had the moves down, they hand picked five guys to compete to be Preston & Steve's Who's Luau Big Kahuna. Among those contestants were Preston, Steve, Casey and Lou (that Lou!) Full video of the dances.
Samoan Fire Knife Warriors
Before the finale, members of Paradise Island Entertainment walked around the crowd asking everyone to take a few steps back with the warning that "it's about to get hot." They were right:
WOW! WOW! WOW! What a great night! Mahalo to everyone who came to hang (especially you, Avonte Maddox!), wore Hawaiian shirts, cheers new friends and even jumped in the pool. Catch our morning after conversation on the P&S Livestream. We leave you with this...
Who’s Lou? No really, who’s the Lou guy on Preston & Steve?
We here at The Preston & Steve Show love the opportunity to play movie clips when listeners with certain names calls in. All the Richards (Tommy Boy), Garrys (Weird Science), Sandys (Grease), Bobs (What About Bob) and Leons (Midnight Madness) know what we’re talking about.
In early 2021, we had a Lou call in. There have been many Lous before him, but none quite like this Lou. The first time he called in we obviously played the “Who’s Lou” clip from A League of Their Own and he loved it. He repeated it back to us in his loud raspy voice and we had a short “Who’s On First” type moment. And we immediately fell in love with Lou.
Slowly he began calling in more and more. About once every other week or so. The stories he shared were normal (for our standards) but then out even those began to get out of control. Driving for the mob, running away to Hawaii, so much craziness.
While we were enjoying his calls on air, Lou was adopting the tagline for his life away from the radio. With some help from his kids, it became his Instagram handle: @imwhoslou. He’s living the Who’s Lou life.
