Lzzy Hale: MMRBQ ’24 Is Going To Be Like A Huge Music Family Reunion
MMRBQ is this Saturday! We learned from Lzzy Hale that this will be the first time Halestorm and Offspring will be sharing the stage since the MMRBQ on May 17th, 2009! Plus a reunion with the gang from Silvertide!
Due to house renovations, Lzzy was surrounded by her clothes. Because of that, she was able to find her “Tom Waits For No One” T- shirt and held it up to the camera for Preston to see. Preston just showed her his John Mellencamp’s “Please Don’t Serve This Man A Chili Dog” shirt.
Casey asked if she was friends with Silvertide and she is! At the MMRBQ, it’s going to be a family reunion.
We all cut our teeth on South Street! This is our foundation.
Preston got a chance to listen to Lzzy sing before she made it big. It took a village for her band Halestorm to get their break. They had their ups and downs. Their journey began with them hearing multiple times “We don’t know where to put you.” Lzzy was ahead of her time being a female lead singer for a rock band back in the 90’s. She found her grounding once she met David Ivory. He is a big influence in her songwriting. She shared the story of when her band gave David their demo tape. He told her to call him when her band fell apart – and it did.
After half her band left, she decided to call Dave. That’s when they started working together. He gave her homework – to write 5 songs. Every Tuesday, Lzzy would write something and record it. Dave Ivory was the one who really helped Lzzy hone in on her craft.
Lzzy confirmed that it has been 28 years of Halestorm. They began on August 9th, 1997. Through their ups and downs, they still hold strong.
You have the power inside of you where you can either create or destroy… Don’t stress when things go wrong.
Halestorm lived through the grind. They were denied from labels like Island, Epic, and Columbia. But when the band looks back, it was supposed to happen.
Keep your eyes forward on what you absolutely love to do.
Preston brought up how Lzzy does crazy stunts up on stage in HEELS! 8-inch heels are her limit. She wears high heels because it looks dangerous. It was one more thing that the boys couldn’t do. It was going to get people talking.
Linkin Park announced Emily Armstrong was the new lead singer. Preston asked if Lzzy was asked to join them. She got calls from people in her camp, like her managers, about the rumor and it wasn’t true. But she did sing a cover of a Linkin Park song to fool fans on social media!
Only Lzzy can hit those high notes, especially in “I Remember You”. It’s hard, but she knows her limit. A lot of vocal work is needed for consistency and longevity. Vocal exercises are a must for singers touring. Lzzy explained how she goes out on her trampoline with weights and practices.
Lzzy Hale is a role model for aspiring female rock artists who want to cut their teeth in performing. We look forward to Halestorm, Offspring and all the bands performing this Saturday at the 2024 MMRBQ!
