In the 90s, 6ABC tried to change the iconic Action News theme song. It didn’t go over well.
When the story is told is usually starts with “remember when…” or “I’m pretty sure…” but 6ABC has stepped in to confirm that is was indeed real.
In September 1996, Action News made a bold decision to update its theme music. The song we hum along to every night, “Move Closer To You World My Friend”, had been the iconic theme music for decades. Someone at 6ABC thought it that they could find something better. They were wrong.
“The Mix of ’96” documents the three days in 1996 that infuriated viewers and confused staff members. Longtime employees of the station tell the story as they remember it.
“We were so busy just answering phones, we literally could not get a phone call out” Tanya Husar, Managing Editor since 1985 recalled.
Vice President of Content John Morris was a 6ABC Producer at the time recalled, “we didn’t even completely change the music, just a different version of it” It didn’t matter.
