Chester Co. Pizzeria Named Among Best Pizzerias in the World

A Chester County pizzeria was honored among the world's best pizza shops during the International Pizza Challenge. This event unites the top pizzerias worldwide in competition among several categories.

Kennett Square's Mezzaluna Wood Fired Pizza, at 216 S. Mill Road, placed third overall in the nontraditional division. Mezzaluna also placed first overall in the northeast division preliminaries.

According to a Patch of West Chester report, the nontraditional division has chefs competing live, with no restrictions on application of ingredients, dough, sauce, styles, and toppings. Mezzaluna earned a bronze medal amid competition from a field of approximately 110 elite finalists worldwide.

"It was such an honor to not only compete alongside hundreds of pizza makers from across the country and from all over the world, but to also get to know some of the best pizza makers in the world," Chef Benjamin Tobin shared in a Facebook post. "It was such an honor to not only compete alongside hundreds of pizza makers from across the country and from all over the world, but to also get to know some of the best pizza makers in the world!"

In addition to Mezzaluna, Pizzata Pizzeria of Philadelphia placed second in the "Pan Division Finals" category.

The International Pizza Expo is regarded as the premier pizza-judging competition in the world. A total of 550 eateries, most of them from Italy, take part in the competition, which is part of Pizza Expo celebrations in Las Vegas.
