Three years after it scaled back its service offerings in Delaware and Pennsylvania, FreshDirect is resuming service in these states.

The grocery delivery company confirmed with Grocery Dive that it relaunched its services in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties on Monday, May 5. In approximately two weeks, the company will reenter the New Castle County, Delaware, market.

In an emailed statement, FreshDirect spokesperson Lauren Jangl said the decision to resume delivery in these designated areas was based on consumer feedback, an evaluation of operations improvements, and “strong demand for our return.”

FreshDirect left the Philadelphia area in late summer 2022. It was one of several online grocers that reduced their service areas following the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company confirmed it also ended services in Delaware and the other four Pennsylvania counties in 2022.

In late 2023, Getir bought the e-grocery company from Ahold Delhaize. While Getir exited from the U.S. market, FreshDirect remained operational in the United States.

FreshDirect is currently offering $50 off customers' first order totaling $99 or more with the promotion code NEW50 at checkout. The offer expires on Dec. 31.
