A new bus service, FlixBus is making plans to provide daily transportation between Philadelphia and Reading.
During a Monday, May 19, meeting of the Reading City Council's Committee of the Whole, Berks County Planning Commission Senior Transportation Planner Alan Piper revealed that FlixBus would offer the Philadelphia to Reading service, operating in conjunction with South Central Transit and BARTA (Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority).
The service intends to use the same bus bay in its facility that Amtrak had been using before Amtrak discontinued its Reading to Philadelphia connection bus service in March.
Piper said that during a Reading Area Transportation Study (RATS) meeting, some discussions had been raised about the possibility of FlixBus providing airport-to-airport service from Reading Regional Airport to Philadelphia International Airport.
A search on the FlixBus website confirmed that service would begin on Thursday, May 22. The first one hour and 45-minute trip from Philadelphia to Reading departs at 9:15 a.m. in Philadelphia and arrives in Reading at 11 a.m.
According to information from WFMZ-TV 69 News, FlixBus is a global company based in Munich, Germany. FlixMobility is the parent company, which was acquired by Greyhound Lines in 2021. More information about it is available on the company's website.
