The Free Library of Philadelphia has announced that its locations throughout the Philadelphia region will offer special programs throughout June for mental health awareness. The following events are among some of the highlights for this month's programming:
Chair Yoga for Adults in the Garden
Join a yoga instructor for a mid-week stretch and recentering in the garden at the Queen Memorial Library. Participants will practice gentle yoga while seated or using a chair for support. The activitiy is open to all ages and abilities. In case of rain, participants will meet in the library meeting room. | Wednesday, June 4, 1 p.m.
Teen Tuesday: Mental Health Check-in
This Teen Tuesday session invites area teens to hang out and talk about mental health topics at the Greater Olney Library. Participants will also be able to make decorations to hang in the teen space. | Tuesday, June 10, 4 p.m.
Read to a Therapy Dog
Children can take turns of up to 10 minutes reading aloud to Cene, a local certified therapy dog from Comfort Caring Canines at the Kingsessing Library. | Wednesday, June 11, 4 p.m.
Music 101: Theory
Members of the public are invited to push the boundaries of their musical creativity during three workshops led by musician and teacher Salina Kuo. Each program will include a 60-minute hands-on class plus 30 minutes to play instruments. Nutrition Workshop with The Food Trust
Learn creative, nutritious recipes at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library. Watch a cooking demo, participate in a food tasting, and enjoy kitchen giveaways. Pre-registration is not required.
