A recent survey conducted by the Canadian travel blog Frugal Flyer has named two New Jersey beaches among the top hidden beach destinations in the United States.
Sedge Island took the No. 27 spot on the list, and Pearl Beach in Cape May Point garnered the No. 30 spot on the list.
Sedge Island is a dynamic, environmentally significant area in Barnegat Bay, located off Island Beach State Park in New Jersey's only Marine Conservation Zone.
Programs at Sedge Island offer residential environmental education programs to participants ages 12 and older. Participants take a 15-minute boat ride from the Sedge Dock at Island Beach State Park to the island. The New Jersey Fish & Wildlife Department cover topics such as clamming, conservation, fishing, salt marsh ecology, and other subjects.
Pearl Beach appeals to individuals who want a peaceful escape surrounded by natural scenery. It's located near Sunset Beach, the historic Cape May Lighthouse, and Cape May Point State Park. "Don't expect restrooms or snack bars right on the sand — this location is for the prepared beachgoer who packs essentials," noted the Asbury Park Press.
Frugal Flyer conducted an online survey that garnered 3,002 respondents, broken down by age, gender, and geography. Intensive data analysis included digital fingerprinting, bot checks, geo-verification, and speeding detection to ensure the authenticity of the survey results.
