2 Local Attractions Named Among Best Free Options in US

USA TODAY readers have named a New Jersey and Philadelphia attraction among the best free attractions in the United States.

The Cape May County Park & Zoo ranked number 9 out of 10 attractions in 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards. Independence National Historical Park -- home to Independance Hall -- in Philadelphia came in at number 3 on the list.

According to NJ Family, the zoo has more than 500 animals of 250 species, known for its snow leopard cubs, baby giraffes, a bald eagle, monkeys, and river otters. The zoo is currently raising funds to build a new habitat for penguins and flamingos.

Throughout the year, the zoo hosts plenty of family-friendly events that will enhance any visit. Admission and parking are free.

The park offers 200 acres of free fun, including picnic areas, fishing ponds, walking and biking paths, playgrounds, a disc golf course, and tennis courts.

Cape May County Park & Zoo is at 707 North Route 9 in Cape May Court House. Zoo hours are 10am-4:30pm, and the park is open daily (weather permitting) from 7am until dusk.

At Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the American Revolution and the founding of our nation. The park includes Independence Hall, where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were signed, and the Liberty Bell.

Independence National Historical Park has now been named on USA Today's list for best free attractions three years in a row.
