The Animal Care & Control Team (ACCT) of Philadelphia is making an urgent plea to pet lovers to consider adopting a new friend from its shelter.

ACCT officials reported that their shelter has reached its capacity limits and cannot accept new animals.

“'We're full.' 'We're desperate for fosters.' 'We need help.' These aren't just phrases we say often. They're a reflection of our daily reality," the shelter said in a news release. More frequently, larger dogs are the ones who are at risk the most of euthanasia if they are not adopted or fostered.

Through Sunday, July 13, community residents who adopt a large dog and commit to fostering the dog for at least four weeks will receive a $250 gift card from the ACCT as a "thank you" for helping officials clear the shelter.

According to an NBC10 Philadelphia report, those seeking to foster a dog will be asked to provide a few photos, videos, and a short bio within the first 10 days to help promote the dog for adoption. An ABC 6 report noted that for those interested in adopting a dog, the adoption fee will be only $10 from Monday, July 7, through Saturday, July 19, courtesy of the Bissell Pet Foundation.

The ACCT of Philadelphia is the largest animal care and control service in southeastern Pennsylvania. According to ACCT figures, the organization has helped to save 5,860 animals this year alone.

Log on to the ACCT website or visit the shelter at 111 W. Hunting Park Ave. to meet the loveable animals available for adoption.
