A new mobile app is now available to guide visitors through historic sites in four Pennsylvania counties across the Pocono Mountains. Users can listen to stories about local sites that shaped American history through this free digital tool.

"The Pocono Mountains is home to some of the most interesting stories of the past that everyone who lives here or visits the Poconos should experience," said Chris Barrett, President/CEO of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.

No booking is needed. The mobile passport awaits at PoconoHistoryTrail.com. Track your visits to spots like the grand Asa Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe or step back in time at Wayne County's Historical Society building.

Success with a similar app for local brewers sparked this version, which focuses on the area's rich history. The app developers saw this as a chance to bring local history to life through phones.

Think of it as a knowledgeable friend in your pocket. After a quick sign-up, audio tales are available to bring each site's past to life. For even more convenience, you can move at your own pace between each historic stop.

While many know this area for its peaks and proximity to the city, the app reveals deeper roots. "Pocono" is derived from a Native American word referring to "the stream that runs through two mountains." During the Civil War, some of the nation's wealthiest citizens built their homes here. Both tourists and locals can now uncover tales of places that left their mark on American history.

Just grab your phone and start discovering. It's a free and easy way to bring the past back to life.
