Authorities Warn Chester County About Scammers Posing as Law Enforcement

Authorities are warning Chester County residents to be on the alert for a new scam involving telephone calls from fake sheriff's deputies and detectives. The latest scam targeted several victims during the past week.

According to a Patch of West Chester report, scammers leave voicemails for their victims informing them that they need to return the calls "in reference to a court process." In other incidents, the scammers demand money from their victims through gift cards or Visa cards.

Police officials want to remind all residents that no officer will communicate with members of the public in this way.
