A new Wawa along the Newtown Bypass is opening on Thursday, July 31, and this store is a unique one.
Located near the Newtown border with Middletown Township, the 5,500-square-foot Wawa at 91 Lower Silver Lake Road is the first Wawa in Pennsylvania that features solar panels and several electric vehicle charging stations. According to Phillyburbs.com, the solar panels are expected to fuel up to 20% of the store's energy utilization.
Doors to the new Wawa will open at 8 a.m. The first 100 customers in line will receive a free T-shirt. Customers can also take advantage of free coffee through Sunday, Aug. 3. A ribbon-cutting event will follow opening remarks at 8:30 a.m. Hoagies for Heroes, a hoagie-building competition, will pit members of local police and fire departments against each other for a good cause: $1,000 will be donated to each department's charity of choice, Wawa announced in a statement.
Wawa operates 141 stores with solar panels, including 130 in New Jersey, 10 in Maryland, and the new store near Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
